The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed in December 2015. This law governs K-12 education policy in the United States and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). ESSA and Cocke County’s School System
Our school system receives federal funding under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), 2015. During the school year, system supervisors will provide you with important information regarding this law and the education of your child.
Federal Programs
Our schools receive federal funding for participation in the following programs:
Title I: Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
Title II, Part A: Teacher Quality
Title III: Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students
Title VI: Rural Low-Income School Program
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
The Cocke County School System affirms that it complies with Title VI and the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Title VI states:
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of race color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal Financial Assistance.”
