When parents and family members are engaged in children’s schools and education, children have higher grades and standardized test scores, improved behavior at home and school, and better social skills and adaptation to school. Programs and interventions that engage families in supporting their children’s learning are linked to higher student achievement. Students with more highly involved parents are more likely to gain in both reading and math than children with less involved parents. Research has shown that this is true across all income and education levels. For this reason, family engagement is a primary focus of the Title I program and the Cocke County School System.
The mission of the family engagement program is to increase family engagement at each of our schools. Our objective is to identify activities and/or programs to achieve this mission and to develop strategies to implement these programs and activities.
